Who am I?
About Me
I know it can be hard to know who someone is based solely on their academic achievements, professional experience, or headshot, so this page is your chance to learn about me beyond these!
Who am I?
What are my goals?
While I have many goals, both small and big, two of my biggest are obtaining my Ph.D. and becoming a published author, either of nonfiction or fiction.
What are some of my hobbies?
Of course, I love to read and write, but I also love photography, sewing, baking, working out, and cleaning when I am not spending time with my friends and family.
What are my biggest accomplishments?
Not only did I graduate with my B.A. in English with a 4.0, but I also graduated a year early. While completing my B.A., I was also selected by the English faculty to serve as one of the first undergraduate English Teaching Assistants at my college. It was this accomplishment and experience that led to perhaps my biggest accomplishment to date--getting into graduate school and being granted a teaching assistantship.
Why did I choose to study English?
This is one of my favorite questions for fellow English students and scholars. I started out as a Graphic Design major, but when I took a Creative Writing elective course, I knew I wanted to pursue a degree in English. Though I had always loved reading and writing, I didn't think I could turn this passion into a career. My professors and mentors have shown me otherwise.
Favorite Book
Do I have to choose just one? I adore Madeline Miller's Circe, but I cannot deny my favorite young adult book a place here, so I must mention Suzanne Collins's The Hunger Games.
Favorite Poem
Favorite Quote
"She was becoming herself and daily casting aside that fictitious self which we assume like a garment with which to appear before the world." -Kate Chopin, The Awakening
Favorite Song
Another near-impossible choice, but the only song that never gets old for me, is Elvis Presley's cover of "Unchained Melody."
Favorite Artist
While my Spotify stats allege my top artists are Taylor Swift, Post Malone, Elvis Presley, Fleetwood Mac, and The Weeknd, I would attest that my favorite is a tie between Miley Cyrus and Elvis Presley.
Favorite Book Genre
Although I enjoy reading fantasy, romance, and historical novels, I have to admit that my favorite genre to both read and study is young adult literature.
Favorite Movie
10 Things I Hate About You, A Cinderella Story, Tangled, or Mean Girls
Favorite Short Story
Favorite 'Classic'
My Favorite Things
Creative Endeavors
My creative interests are vast and ever-changing. I love to sew, draw, paint, film, edit videos, take photos, and create graphics - basically, I love to create or, sometimes, breathe new life into older pieces. You can find some more of my creative links here.
